Description
This ore cart is a remnant left by the Treadwell Mining Complex. It still sits on the tracks, which are visible to the left. The Treadwell Mine operated in Douglas, Alaska, in the early 20th Century. It shut down following a fire and cave-in. During its heyday, many thousands of miners and their families lived in Douglas, across Gastineau Channel from Juneau and the Alaska-Juneau Mine. The forest is slowly swallowing the bits and pieces left by the mine.
