Description
The chocolate lily (Fritillaria camschatcensis) is a perennial herb, with bell-shaped flowers displaying six brown to purplish-black petals. Its roots resemble a dense ball of rice. For this reason, it is also known as a rice lily. It is native to northeastern Asia and northwestern North America, including northern Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, Alaska, northern Japan, and the Russian Far East. It is also called the Kamchatka lily. Though lovely, its distinctive odor is far from pleasant, leading to the name "skunk lily."
