Description
The city of Douglas lies on Douglas Island, across Gastineau Channel from Juneau, Alaska. In the early part of the Twentieth Century, it was home to the bustling Treadwell Mining Complex. Today, the site is marked by a few crumbling buildings and the beautiful sandy beach created by the mining operation. The sand is littered with pieces of broken pottery from the mines. I loved the crazing and colors on this piece. For more images of the remnants of the Treadwell operation, see my Collection: Treadwell Historic Area and Sandy Beach.
