Description
The Haines Highway is a very scenic drive, running approximately 150 miles from Haines, Alaska, to Haines Junction in Canada's Yukon Territory, where it meets the Alaska Highway. It begins on Alaska's coast, crosses the mountains of British Columbia, then moves into Canada's northern interior. The pole seen to the left of the photo is a snowplow guide. During heavy snow, plow drivers use these poles to orient themselves and stay on the highway in treacherous conditions. The highway remains open year round.
