Description
This shell is what remains of the New Office Building from the Treadwell Mine. Photos from the mine's heyday show this space full of desks and clerks or secretaries. The Treadwell Mine operated in Douglas, Alaska, in the early 20th Century. It shut down in 1917 following a fire and cave-in. During its heyday, many thousands of miners and their families lived in Douglas, across Gastineau Channel from Juneau and the Alaska-Juneau Mine. I enjoy exploring the area, and have many photos of the relics left by the Treadwell Mine. They may be viewed in my Fine Art America gallery titled Treadwell Historic Area and Sandy Beach.
