The Haines Highway runs from Haines, Alaska, to Haines Junction in Canada�s Yukon Territory. The 146-mile highway is one of few roads connecting Southeast Alaska to the road system. For Southbound travelers, the road offers access to the Alaska Marine Highway system. From Haines Junction, the Alaska Highway provides access to the rest of Alaska or the Lower 48 states. The mountains are a popular destination for snowmachiners, as evidenced by the tracks visible along the road. The regularly placed posts are markers, showing snowplow drivers where the road is.
