This furnace has been cold for many years. It is located in an abandoned office building, once a part of the bustling Treadwell Mining complex on Douglas Island, across the Gastineau Channel from Juneau, Alaska. This image is available in a total of five versions, including monochrome. I also have many other shots of this building and other relics left by the mining complex. They may be viewed in my Fine Art America Gallery, Treadwell Historical Area and Sandy Beach.

I am a long-time Alaskan, having lived here since 1970. I am retired from state service, after working for the Alaska Department of Corrections for twenty years. In my spare time, I take pictures. I have enjoyed photography since junior high, and I have an extensive photo library. I am working to turn my pictures into an income source to supplement my retirement. My photos include landscapes, nature photos, and abstracts. I have a particular fondness for shooting abandoned places or objects. Subjects range from Southeast Alaska to Interior Alaska, and the stretch of Canada in between. I retain the rights to all images I have posted here.
