Description
Late December 2021 went out with the proverbial bang in Interior Alaska, as heavy snow was followed by heavy freezing rain. Buildings throughout the area collapsed, and roads became nearly impassable, In Delta Junction, our only public grocery store’s roof collapsed, as well as one of the local gas stations. More snow and heavy winds followed. Roads drifted in, school was cancelled, and many people needed help with snow removal, fuel delivery, and more. Our own home is about a quarter mile from the Alaska Highway. Sustained high winds created drifts Two feet deep and three hundred feet long. This was a bit much for even our four wheel drive truck. After two days stuck at at at home, an enterprising fellow with a skid steer cleared our road and driveway. With temps above zero and winds tapering off a bit, the dog and I got out for a nice walk. Of course, the camera came out, too. Normally this pickup is our work horse. Computer issues have sidelined it since July. It stands in mute testimony to the extreme weather of this winter.
