Description
The Tongass National Forest in Southeast Alaska is classified as a temperate rainforest. In the summer, it displays a broad palette of green leaves, in all shapes and sizes. This image captures the broad green leaves of the devil's club plant on the left. Its leaves have caught needles from the towering spruce trees which dominate the forest canopy. In the lower left, you see ferns. On the bottom right, you will see blueberry bushes full of sweet, ripe fruit. Above them are bunchberry plants, also called dwarf dogwood. Their white flowers have given way to the bright red berries seen here.
