Description
Everyone's Grandfather (Ldakit Kaa Leelk'w) is a totem pole carved in 1988 by Nathan Jackson, Lee Wallace and Bert Ryan. It is 20 feet tall and features carvings of Eagle, Wolf, and Bear. It honors the Wolf Clan. The Wolf Clan began when Wolf was injured by a splinter in his mouth. When Wolf met a man he did not fear, the man took the splinter from Wolf's mouth. In gratitude, Wolf bestowed good fortune on the man, who in turn claimed the Wolf crest for his family.
The totem was named by an Elder of the Kaag Waan Taan (Wolf) Clan. It was raised and dedicated in 1988 on behalf of the University of Alaska Fairbanks and the Institute of Alaska Native Arts. Members of the Bear, Coho, Sockeye, Killer Whale, Beaver, and Wolf Clans traveled from Southeast Alaska to participate in the dedication.
