Every summer, I make a point of visiting the Georgeson Botanical Garden on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus. It never disappoints. The flowers are beautiful, with different varieties blooming depending on the time of year. On this sunny day in early July, this gorgeous peony was in full bloom. Peonies have proven to be a viable cash crop in Alaska, and are shipped worldwide. Their peak falls later in the season than those farms in more southerly climates.
